Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is the first national university established by Independent Indonesia in 1949. Since its establishment, UGM has been consistently educating curious minds, not only of Indonesia’s but also the international community. UGM had around 2300 international students from 91 countries studying in different fields of studies (as of 2018). They studied at UGM together with more than 50,000 Indonesian students.
Now, Universitas Gadjah Mada has 18 Faculties and is located at the Bulaksumur Yogyakarta Campus. Most of the faculties in the Universitas Gadjah Mada consist of several departments and study programs. Universitas Gadjah Mada’s academic activities are expressed in the form of the cornerstones of Tri Dharma higher educational values consisting of Education and Teaching, Research, and Community Service.
UGM is an interesting place to study in Indonesia, bringing deep and valuable study abroad experience in one of the most exciting cities in Indonesia. Dig deeper in this culturally rich area with a deep root in education. Yogyakarta area is an amazing place for studying in Indonesia.
In UGM, it has a specialized designed program for international students called IUP (International Undergraduate Program). Its curriculum includes community service, a program held by Universitas Gadjah Mada to develop leadership skills and to contribute to society, especially those in underdeveloped regions. Community service helps students sharpen their problem-solving and teamwork skills. In addition to preparing the graduates who are ready to play important roles in the global market, IUP sets requirements to broaden students' international academic exposure. In order to get Sarjana (Bachelor) degree, students are required to experience at least one of the international academic exposures, namely a double degree program, student exchange program, or short-term academic program.

We recommend you ask the administrator of each program about all the details since not all important information is available online in English. Do call or text or email the admin about your questions or inquiries. The preferred tool is using WhatsApp, social media account, and email. Be prepared to have an admin who is not fluent in English, so speak slowly and clearly. Combine the communication with written format to avoid misunderstanding as far as you can.
Bear in mind that all Indonesian higher education institutions are able to accept international students in programs outside the ones labeled as "international programs." That means that those regular programs are held in Indonesian language, and all international students should have sufficient language capability to enter the program.
