Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) was established on 23 October 1954. In the beginning, it was named IKIP Padang (Institute of Teacher and Education Science), then changed again into PTPG (Teacher Education College) before going with the UNP name. The root in education and teachers college has brought a lot of positive attitude into UNP. Since then, UNP has changed a lot. UNP is now one of the best universities in Indonesia.

UNP is an interesting place to study in Indonesia, bringing deep and valuable study abroad experience in one of the most exciting cities in Indonesia. Dig deeper in this culturally rich area with a deep root in education. 

The city of Padang is the largest city on the west coast of Sumatra Island and the capital of the province of West Sumatra, Indonesia. Padang is famous for its unique and delicious cuisine. This city is full of history, many important national heroes and intellectuals are born and grown here. Padang also has one of the earliest higher education institutions in the country.

UNP currently conducts international programs in 2 different schemes. The first is the full English program called "International Class Study Program" for undergraduate students. The second one is the Dual Degree Study Program for undergraduate students.

For all other study programs of bachelor, master, and doctoral degrees, they are all conducted in Indonesian language. The availability of this kind of program is subject to regular admission criteria. Please consult the UNP International Office (IO) if you are a foreign student wishing to study in UNP.

We recommend you ask the administrator of each program about all the details since not all important information is available online in English. Do call or text or email the admin about your questions or inquiries. The preferred tool is using WhatsApp, social media account, and email. Be prepared to have an admin who is not fluent in English, so speak slowly and clearly. Combine the communication with written format to avoid misunderstanding as far as you can.

Bear in mind that all Indonesian higher education institutions are able to accept international students in programs outside the ones labeled as "international programs." That means that those regular programs are held in Indonesian language, and all international students should have sufficient language capability to enter the program.
