The Gadjah Mada International Fellowship (GMIF) program has been offered by UGM since 2018 to international Postgraduate candidates, especially the ones coming from ASEAN member countries (excluding Indonesia), South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, and other countries that manage to demonstrate the need of financial assistance.

In 2020, UGM provided only 15 slots of recipients for the GMIF program. In 2021, UGM offers 29 seats —almost twice in number— which consists of 19 slots of full coverage scholarship, reserved mainly for applicants from developing countries of Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Pacific regions. Then, 10 slots for partial coverage scholarship, reserved mainly for applicants from any above-mentioned countries. 

Many benefits offered by this prestigious scholarship program which, to name a few, includes waived tuition fee, health insurance during the fellowship program, a thesis research fund of IDR 10 million for Master Program of both partial and full coverage scholarship, a thesis research fund of IDR 15 million for Doctoral Program of full coverage scholarship, and a one-semester Indonesian Language Program/INCULS (blended learning system) for those who enroll the INCULS Program. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, living allowance and accommodation expenses according to Yogyakarta rate for partial coverage scholarship awardees are not provided. A round-trip international airfare for both categories of scholarship is also waived during online learning.

Those who wished to apply must be subject to certain eligibility requirements such as enrollment in home university; a bachelor’s degree for master program applicant or a master’s degree for doctoral program applicant in Engineering, Science, Medicine/Health, Geography, Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Science, Economics, Law, Social Sciences and Humanity, or related fields; excellent bachelor’s degree academic record (GPA of at least 3.0 on 4.0 GPA scale or any other documents proving candidates’ adequate academic qualification) for master program applicants; good proficiency in English (TOEFL score of at least 400 for applying Master Degree or 450 for applying for Doctoral Program); and dissertation proposal for doctoral program applicant.
