Beasiswa Kemitraan Negara Berkembang, popularly known as KNB Scholarship, is a prestigious scholarship program offered by the government of the Republic of Indonesia to selected applicants originating from developing countries to pursue their Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Universities in Indonesia. Managed by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture, the scholarship has been disbursed since 2008 to 1,290 recipients from 94 countries.
The role of the KNB Scholarship has been central in supporting Indonesian higher education institutions in their endeavor for internationalization. The number of international students is indicative of the global visibility of higher education institutions. In support of Indonesian universities’ internationalization and to accommodate the increasing interest from applicants all around the world, the number of scholarships being awarded every year has continued to grow.
The scholarship has also been continuing to expand its partnership with reputable public and private universities in the country. In doing so, the scholarship has been sustaining the quality improvement of Indonesian higher education institutions in order to meet the standards of internationally reputable universities.
This scholarship bestows opportunities for potential students in developing countries to advance their knowledge and competencies by studying and earning degrees at prominent universities in Indonesia. The KNB’s awardees could experience life in the culturally most diverse nation in the world and expected to become the academic-cultural agent for spreading Indonesian culture and languages.

The number of scholarships offered in the 2021 fiscal year is 200 scholarships consisting of 10 scholarships for doctoral programs, 180 scholarships for masters programs and 5 scholarships for undergraduate programs.
Scholarship Coverage
- A Settlement Allowance of IDR 1,500,000 will be given to new students upon their arrival in Indonesia;
- While taking the Indonesian language course and preparatory programs, the new students will only receive Living Allowance and Book Allowance that will be distributed monthly;
- During the Academic Program, the KNB students will receive a monthly allowance that consists of living allowance and research and book allowance;
- Health insurance with a maximum of IDR 400,000 monthly premium (in case of the cost of medical services exceeded to those covered by the health insurance, the difference should be borne by the student);
- A round-trip international airfare (economy class) from the international airport of the student’s home countries to Indonesia, including local transport to the host university;
- The duration of the scholarship is exclusively correlated to the duration of the academic program as indicated below: (1) Indonesian Language course and Master Preparatory Program (Duration: Maximum 12 Month), (2) Doctorate Program (Duration: Maximum 36 Month or 6 semesters), (3) Master Program (Duration: Maximum 24 months or 4 semesters), and (4) Bachelor Program (Duration: Maximum 48 months or 8 semesters);
- Please be advised that the KNB Scholarship is calculated to support the KNB Student costs only. There is no provision for dependents. KNB Students are advised not to bring dependents to Indonesia. The KNB Scholarship provides no financial or pastoral support for dependants and will not endorse the visa applications of, nor provide travel for, dependants.
Note: Other expenses besides the above-mentioned items will be considered as personal expenses and will be borne by the students.
