Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) International Programs

The history of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) can be traced back to 1851 when the first medical school in Indonesia (named “Javanese Medical School”) was established in Batavia (now Jakarta). After that, the Nederlandsche Indische Artsen School (NIAS) was established in Surabaya in 1913 (now the Faculty of Medicine), the forerunner of UNAIR. 

Officially, Universitas Airlangga was founded in 1954 by President Soekarno. The university was named after a great king ruling East Java in 1019 known as Prabu Airlangga. Since then, the progress and development of UNAIR have been tremendous. Not only is it considered to be the best university in Eastern Indonesia, but also it is considered to be one of the best universities in Indonesia. It has produced national and international well-known national and international figures.

The International Undergraduate Programmes (IUP) offered by Universitas Airlangga is a response to the demand from our stakeholders, including the society and industries. The programs provide a high-quality education that is delivered by highly competent lecturers. English is used as the medium of instruction in the programs. Furthermore, students in these programs are required to get international exposure as much as possible. 

The programs will provide students with an international atmosphere and an advanced and relevant curriculum. We believe that those will help students to unlock and reach their full potential. Graduates of these programs will be knowledgeable, skillful, innovative, and confident. Moreover, they will always pursue excellence in anything they are doing, without ignoring moral values. These will enable them to compete on a national and global level. They will also contribute positively to the development of their society, country, and even the world.

For undergraduate programs, all are offered as a single degree scheme. However, Psychology, Dental Medicine and Accounting, are also offered in a double degree scheme with UNAIR's partners. As for graduate programs, only double degree programs are available. All programs offered below are internationally accredited.

For the Doctoral Program, no specific international program is offered, however, international students could apply in regular programs taught in Indonesian language (and part in English).

We recommend you ask the administrator of each program about all the details since not all important information is available online in English. Do call or text or email the admin about your questions or inquiries. The preferred tool is using WhatsApp, social media account, and email. Be prepared to have an admin who is not fluent in English, so speak slowly and clearly. Combine the communication with written format to avoid misunderstanding as far as you can.

Bear in mind that all Indonesian higher education institutions are able to accept international students in programs outside the ones labeled as "international programs." That means that those regular programs are held in Indonesian language, and all international students should have sufficient language capability to enter the program.
