Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) is a higher education private institution under the Muhammadiyah organization that was founded on 24 October 1981. The original name at that time was IKIP Muhammadiyah Surakarta (Institute of Teaching and Education). UMS is a university based on Islamic principles and advanced in the fields of science, technology, social relations, arts and culture.

Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) International Programs

UMS is located in Surakarta or Solo in short. This is a major city in Central Java, Indonesia. Today's Solo is a bustling economic centre of some 800,000 (with the suburbs). It is in close proximity to the temples of Prambanan. The town is a centre of art and education, offers some good shopping and has some range of tourist facilities. Solo is very well known for its charming and soft-spoken people.

UMS conducts an international Double Degree Program, it is an undergraduate program with multiple degrees, one degree awarded by UMS and the other degree awarded by UMS partner universities abroad. The program is held mainly in English (except the double degree program with Korean university partner).

Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) International Programs

The scheme of double degree program is a 2-3 year course at UMS and then lectures 1-2 years at partner universities depending on UMS agreement with partner universities. UMS currently has several double degree programs that partner with universities in the UK, South Korea, China, Australia and Taiwan.

During study at UMS, double degree students live in Mas Mansur International boarding school, which is a boarding school that belongs to Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta which is arranged for international students.

Be prepared to have an admin who is not fluent in English, so speak slowly and clearly. Combine the communication with written format to avoid misunderstanding as far as you can.

Bear in mind that all Indonesian higher education institutions are able to accept international students in programs outside the ones labeled as "international programs." That means that those regular programs are held in Indonesian language, and all international students should have sufficient language capability to enter the program.
